Food Fact # 2 – Alligator pear… aka Avocado!
The humble avocado was once referred to as the ‘alligator pear’ because of its pear shape and rough green skin. Nutritionally, avocados compared to other fruits contain higher amounts of protein, magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin K. Due to the high content of healthy fats in avocados, the fruit has a role to play in lowering bad cholesterol.
