DAY NINETEEN | Lessons from the Proud

May 19, 2009

WELCOME TO DAY NINETEEN | LESSONS FROM THE PROUD

HABAKKUK 2 : 4 & 5 – Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man, And he does not stay at home. Because he enlarges his desire as hell, and he is like death, and cannot be satisfied, He gathers to himself all nations and heaps up for himself all peoples.

Today in our EXCEL70 season I want to look at the proud person. The scripture says to behold the proud. Check them out. Learn from their ways. Don’t make the same mistakes because God resists the proud.

I would hate to have God resisting my plans and dreams in life. There are a number of things that can be seen in a proud person’s life and we should do everything we can to live the opposite.

1. His soul is not upright within him.
In other words he does not live by faith in God. He has chosen to live out of his own abilities and resources. His soul deceives him and he believes he is the reason for his own success.

ACTION – LIVE BY FAITH IN GOD AND SUBMIT ALL YOUR WAYS TO HIM

2. He is given to excessive compulsive behaviour and he errs in judgement because of it.

His ability to sustain inner joy without addictive behaviour is lacking and so he transgresses.

ACTION – DISCIPLINE YOURSELF AND CONTROL YOUR DESIRES.

3. He is a wanderer looking for action.

He has no desire to be planted in a position of faithfulness. Life is too short for boring things like faithfulness and consistency. He does not set his heart on building a home base with family and friends filling it with good things for the future. He roams looking for the next bit of action he can find.

ACTION – PLANT YOURSELF IN A HOME BASE AND VALUE IT ABOVE ALL ELSE.

4. He enlarges his desire like hell.

In other words he dreams continually and is never satisfied. He does not work hard to see his dreams become reality, but wishes and hopes for some magic to happen. Because of this it is always someone else’s responsibility to help him see his dreams come true.

ACTION – SET YOURSELF TO FULFILL ONE GOAL AT A TIME.

5. He gathers from everywhere and uses people to fulfil his ends and then spits them out.

Proud people do not care where they get their stuff from, it just has to come to them any way they can get it.

ACTION – COMMIT TO HELPING OTHERS BE SUCCESSFUL AND YOU WILL BE.
